Budo & Martial Arts Federation
Swedish Budo and Martial Arts
Federation is included in the Swedish Sports Confederation
(Riksidrottsförbundet), and organises most
East Asian martial arts since the beginning of
the 1960s. Nowadays also non-Asian martial arts
are included. An exception is judo, which formed
its own federation in 1987; taekwondo did the
same in 1997. There are also a number of martial
arts that are not connected to a federation.
Currently there
are eighteen different sports within the organisation.
Karate is the biggest with approximately 17 500
members, followed by ju-jutsu with 11 000, aikido
with 5000 and wushu with 3500. All together the
federation has around 40 000 members in over 750
